Frost Damage:

Walking on a frosty fairway or green causes the frozen grass leaves to fracture. When this happens the frost ruptures the leaf cells seriously damaging them and they die. You can see this on a golf course where you can tell the next day where a buggy or a trolley have been by the two black strips of dead grass.
